LIGHTS! CAMERA! CHECK-IN BAGS

Looking the part on TV takes more than cabin baggage can carry

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - Escape - - HOW I PACK -

Afixture on our TV screens for years, Ten’s entertainment editor Angela Bishop has interviewed everyone from Nicole Kidman and Oprah, to the late Princess Diana.

Reporting for Eyewitness News, and as a co-host on Channel Ten’s morning show, Studio 10, the roving reporter travels the world to cover the biggest award shows in showbiz. And as such, she packs to ensure she’s always red carpet ready.

MY PACKING STYLE IS …

Pretty last-minute as often, given the nature of my work, my trips are actually last-minute, especially when it comes to breaking news.

I PACK FOR A WORK TRIP BY …

First, checking the weather ... I have had to dress for red carpets at the Emmy Awards that took place in temperatures of 44C-plus, and at the BAFTA awards in London where it had been snowing.

MY ESSENTIALS FOR A WORK TRIP INCLUDE …

Clothes for interviews or red carpets, shoes and handbags to match, microphone for recording voiceovers on the run and my Channel 10 and

Studio 10 mic cubes. I’ve flown to Belfast for 26 hours, New York for 16 hours and frequently fly to LA for the day or overnight, but even on short trips I often check in luggage because of the amount of clothes and shoes I need to wear on camera. I pack shoes in boxes, as heels can break in luggage. I have clothes that don’t need pressing, for interviews. I pack redcarpet gowns in tissue to stop creasing and I always carry a spare bag that folds into a small square, just in case a spare shopping moment pops up!

MY LUGGAGE IS …

Victorinox for check-in. Their suitcases take what I throw at them. For carry-on I like my Paklite roller and my Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote.

I NEVER BOARD A FLIGHT WITHOUT …

My Bird & Knoll Qantas limited edition “Feels Like Home” scarf. It’s light, but has just enough cashmere to keep me warm when airconditioning gets too cold on-board.

BIGGEST PACKING MISTAKE …

When I packed muesli bars into my checked luggage on a trip to New York. The sniffer dogs must have caught a whiff ... my bag arrived on the carousel cut open, even though I had a TSA-approved lock that could easily have been removed.

MY TOP PACKING HACK …

Is to presume that anything can and will leak. I wrap everything liquidbased in reusable plastic bags.

WASH BAG STAPLES INCLUDE …

La Mer skin cream and eye cream, plus some vitamin C oil for after each flight to give my skin a moisture blast.

MY GO-TO TRAVEL APP IS …

Uber, especially in LA. In Venice you can Uber a gondola, and at Cannes you can even Uber a chopper!

I MAKE A HOTEL ROOM FEEL LIKE HOME BY …

Putting up drawings my 10-year-old daughter, Amelia, has done for me.

AS TOLD TO PAUL EWART

PICTURES: BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL AND BUNGALOWS, CHANNEL TEN

Hollywood is a frequent overnight destination for Angela Bishop (inset), Channel 10’s roving entertainment editor.
