What be­gan as a stage play should never have worked so well on screen, so all credit to writer Peter Mor­gan for the adap­ta­tion of his own work and the pro­lific Ron Howard for main­tain­ing the drama in such a fa­mil­iar story.

Pow­er­ful per­for­mances from Frank Lan­gella as Richard Nixon, the dis­graced 37th pres­i­dent of the US, and Michael Sheen as the up­start Bri­tish TV in­ter­viewer David Frost who fi­nally drew out of Nixon a post-Water­gate ad­mis­sion of wrong­do­ing – and his in­fa­mous words: “I let down the Amer­i­can peo­ple.”
