Nominated for nine Academy Awards, Stephen Daldry’s film won one for best actress Nicole Kidman. David Hare’s screenplay is based on Michael Cunningham’s novel about three generations of women who struggle with depression. Kidman is Virginia Woolf in the 1920s, the year she wrote Mrs Dalloway. Julianne Moore is Laura Brown, a troubled young mother in the 1950s and Meryl Streep is Clarissa Vaughan, a contemporary woman acting like Mrs Dalloway.
