The combination of Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, writers Julian Fellowes and Christopher Mcquarry, and locations such as Paris and Venice should make a sparkling film. What went wrong? The Tourist is flat. Mystery without suspense, comedy without laughs, romance without emotion. Land was directed by James Mangold ( Girl Interrupted, Walk the Line) and he manages to elicit Stallone’s best performance since the original Rocky. Stallone plays Freddie, the partially deaf sheriff of a New Jersey town populated by “real” cops from New York. state, intensely maintained by Cauron. Disillusioned former peace activist Theo Faron ( Clive Owen) agrees to safeguard the world’s only pregnant woman.
