Texas rose Renée Zellweger is once again effective in the role of an Englishwoman, this time the beloved author and illustrator Beatrix Potter (1866-1943), creator of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Australian director Chris Noonan ( Babe) uses animation to show how Potter imagined and interacted with her characters. Her other world is cosseted by the mores of the time and her private life is hardly smooth. Potter is shown as an environmentalist and a smart businesswoman, traits underscored following her death when she left a swath of England’s beautiful Lakes District to the British people.
