Director Martin Scorsese’s foray into family films is a visual stunner. So it’s hard to understand why the movie that scored five Oscars wasn’t a box-office smash. Perhaps it’s because the story of orphan Hugo (Asa Butterfield), who keeps the clocks running in a 1930s Paris railway station, is cluttered by too many elements that appeal to an older audience, and kids may struggle with its two hours.
