Seductive role for EX-NEIGHBOUR

She quit her role as the manipulative Elle Robinson in Neighbours to further spread her acting wings.

Now it’s a grown-up Pippa Black who pops up in the final episode of season 13 of Law and Order SVU as a seductive prostitute.

Black, 29, relocated to Los Angeles in 2010 after leaving Neighbours in 2009, moving to take up a role in short-lived NBC sitcom Outsourced.

The show ran for one season and was cancelled by NBC a year ago.

But Black has stayed on in the US, recently filming an independent movie, as well as her guest role in the SVU season finale.

“How did I get the role? I guess someone thought I’d make a great hooker,” Black giggles down the phone from her Hollywood home.

The role of ice-cool hooker Carissa Gibson is a far cry from the Neighbours persona she honed from 2005 to 2009.

It’s also the first chance Black has had to use her American accent on television.

“In Outsourced I played an Australian on an American show set in India – if that makes sense,” she says. “So this was a first television wise for me. “I don’t find the accent hard – I’m surrounded by Americans over here.

“I spend my days auditioning and studying and catch up occasionally with the other Aussie actors over here.

“I moved over when I got the Outsourced pilot and stayed for the indie film I’ve just shot, My Funny Valentine.

“I’m also looking at another project over here which I can’t talk about just yet.”

My Funny Valentine is Black’s first leading role – she plays a character named Zoe – and is still in post production.

Black was astounded at the pace at which the Law and Order: SVU team worked.

“It’s a quick turnaround, they’re a professional team,” she said.

“Usually you shoot something and it’s months before it goes to air, but this turned around over there very quickly – it was on air in no time.”

The season-ender of Law and Order: SVU has it all – an out-of-control party, conspiracy, a bunch of powerful and high profile revellers who seem to have developed amnesia, and of course, a murder.

Black’s guest role is central to the action, as the prostitute who knows maybe a little too much for her own good. Suffice to say she is front and centre as the season 13 credits roll.
