Watching a bunch of nobodies sitting around solving similar puzzles to the ones found in your Sunday paper doesn’t exactly scream of excitement.

But Countdown must have been doing something right. It’s been a regular hit in England since 1982 – making it one of the world’s most durable game shows.

The puzzles are simple: make long words and solve big maths problems. Its biggest drawcard is that playing along is not only easy, it’s obligatory! as they make the trek. Tonight, while they wait for their transport to warm up, the three check out the Kilmore Highland Games, where Dara manfully takes up the challenge of a hammer-throwing competition – against a girl.
