HOUSE HUSBANDS

Drama 8.30pm, Nine

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - TV Guide - - Sunday Highlights - – DS

Unashamedly taking advantage of a Father’s Day launch, Nine’s latest drama offering is what happens when the boys are left in charge.

This quirky drama has Justin ( Firass Dirani), Kane ( Gyton Grantley), Mark ( Rhys Muldoon) and Lewis ( Gary Sweet) – who have all ended up grappling with their offspring – meeting on the school run. That in itself ends up problematic in this first episode: think a stolen school bus and a missing deputy principal.

On the surface it might all seem a little twee, but delve deeper into the four dads and there are some inescapable and touching truths, offset with humour which makes it utterly disarming. Dirani’s Justin, whose AFL bad boy ways have cost him his wife and family, is embroiled in a custody battle as he tries to regain control of his life. And Sweet’s Lewis is as exasperating as he is charming.
