Mickey Rourke at his battered, beatendown best delivers the performance of a lifetime playing Robin Ramzinski – aka Randy “The Ram” Robinson – a wrestler past his prime whose celebrity star has faded.
Randy now works in a supermarket, wrestles weekends, and is derided by his manager.
Factor in his failing health, fractured family relationships, his romance with a former stripper and his dream of reattaining his former glory, and the result is simultaneously humorous, heartbreaking, touching and exquisitel painful. Rourke’s performance makes the viewer ache.
