THE fight to sign up viewers to streaming services has ramped up with Quickflix dropping its subscription rate to $9.95 a month to fend off competition from Foxtel’s Presto movie streaming service, which costs $19.95. Which service offers a better deal depends on your viewing habits – Presto offers a lot more new-release movies while Quickflix has a bigger range of older content and “are unable to offer subscribers a timely selection of recent hits” according to Presto. Meanwhile Hulu, which offers new-release US TV shows, is cracking down on VPN users outside the US. This could foreshadow the service’s expansion to countries including Australia, or simply be in response to copyright owner pressure.
