OLD SCHOOL

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - TV Guide - - You Can't Miss -

CRIME DRAMA, 8.30PM, ABC1

The ABC has had plenty of success with Friday night Aussie crime dramas Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and The Doctor Blake Mysteries. Now a third series, Old School, is hoping to get in on the action. Sam Neill stars as retired cop Ted McCabe, teamed with Bryan Brown as former criminal Lennie Cahill to solve crimes and expose scams. Tonight’s opening episode starts in Sydney in 2001 with a $5 million armoured car robbery that sees Ted and Lennie on opposite sides of the law. Jump to the present day and Lennie gets out of jail and moves in with his granddaughter Shannon (Hanna Mangan Lawrence). Ted starts tailing Lennie and eventually comes to his rescue. It is great to see Neill and Brown trading verbal taunts but the first Old School lacks the nostalgic appeal of its forerunners. Think of it as The Odd Couple filtered through New Tricks. - CV
