CLARKE PORTRAYS THE QUIET ACHIEVER
SHE was arguably the founding member of Australia’s First Wives Club, but Justine Clarke believes Noelene Hogan was the unsung hero in Hoges: The Paul Hogan Story.
Clarke (below with Josh Lawson), who plays the mother-of-five and Hogan’s high-school sweetheart in Channel Seven’s two-part telemovie, says Noelene is often overlooked as the force behind Hogan.
The couple had been married for 13 years when Hogan made his TV debut.
“The domestic pressures were always off him because of Noelene,” Clarke told TV Guide. “It was still his job to go out and work. I think he was really lucky to have her.”
When the Crocodile Dundee actor left his wife for his co-star Linda Koslowski, the split was described as the ugliest divorce in Aussie history.
Clarke praised her dignity during such a difficult time.
Playing the dutiful wife may not connect with contemporary audiences, but Clarke said: “It was a simpler time … when life was a little bit easier, not so complicated and the fact we can all sit back and watch it together is what makes it event television.”
