VOICE ON SONG FOR FINALE
TONIGHT’S the night a new winner of will be crowned, after a season that’s produced a few twists but largely sailed a pretty straight course.
The ratings have been solid, the coaches played their part to rev up faux show rivalries and the ‘artists’ have shown plenty of promise. But here’s the thing with this format: it’s yet to truly break a star with any longevity; and the pressure is on to find itself a big name, and quick, if it wants to get any real industry cred.
Recycling contestants from other reality talent shows isn’t going to be the fix; with a genuine question mark around whether the franchise needs to tweak its production process and find better prospects, beyond those already signed to record label development deals.
That said, it’s still a slick production and throws up some of the best staging you’ll see anywhere in the world. In the fashion stakes, my prize for style statement of the year goes to Boy George, for his designer ‘derelict’ look. Zoolander would be proud.
