UBER pro­ducer Ryan Mur­phy goes back to the song and dance of while ramp­ing up the fierce­ness for his new se­ries which in­tro­duces us to a gag­gle of queens de­ter­mined to slay at the ball.

We’re not talk­ing Cin­derella here, but the late-’80s ball­room cul­ture of New York night clubs – from which Madonna nicked the moves for The self-ap­pointed queen of th­ese queens is Elek­tra (Do­minique Jack­son, pic­tured), who risks ar­rest to take the crown in royal robes: “I look too good not to be seen.”

From there, the story splits into strands – Blanca leaves the “House” when she’s di­ag­nosed with HIV; trou­bled teen Da­mon is look­ing for his mo­ment; and James Van Der Beek plays a big-not­ing boss in­side Trump Tower. It’s not per­fect, but there’s def­i­nitely noth­ing else like it on TV to­day.
