RONDA Rousey obviously has a lot of time on her hands after losing her UFC Bantamweight crown, but I’m not sure that I’d be picking an uncaged dive with a mako shark to fill up the space. And yet that is what the 31-year-old is preparing to do at the Alderman Islands off the coast of New Zealand.

Adding to the jeopardy and tension, former Australian Navy diver turned actor Paul de Gelder (pictured with Rousey), who lost part of an arm and a leg in a shark attack, is one of Rousey’s coaches.

Training starts in a Los Angeles pool and quickly moves to being dumped in waters off Fiji in chain-mail to see if she can keep her composure. Her husband Travis Brown is on hand to offer support. “You have to have fear to have courage”, Rousey says with typical bravado.
