THE SURGERY SHIP
THE Africa Mercy, a ship filled with volunteer medical staff, has sailed to the tiny West African nation of Benin to offer lifesaving surgery to people who cannot get it any other way. In tonight’s triple episode, the screening team heads up-country to bring their skills to remote areas. Surgeons aim to help a young girl with extremely bent legs caused by malnutrition, and a mother-of-three who undergoes a nine-hour procedure to have a tumour removed from her neck. There is also an Ebola scare to consider. A sometimes confronting but ultimately heartwarming series that shows good in the world.
