TONIGHT’S episode opens with a whole lot of Brits in Not­ting­ham singing John Farn­ham’s You’rethe Voice. Yes, the Aus­tralian na­tional an­them was a mas­sive hit in the UK in the ’80s and still gets reg­u­lar play on British retro ra­dio. Why are peo­ple mak­ing a noise and mak­ing it clear? It’s all part of Dr Michael Mosley’s (above) ex­per­i­ment to see if you can get a run­ner’s high with­out ac­tu­ally run­ning. The choir singing Farnsey also take part in other feel-good events as well as bust­ing out tunes – in­clud­ing danc­ing – to see if they re­lease the same hor­mones as run­ning. They also read dish­washer man­u­als as part of a con­trolled ac­tiv­ity to be able to an­a­lyse the data more ef­fec­tively when they’re not do­ing stren­u­ous ac­tiv­ity. There’s also an ac­tual med­i­cal look at the rise of ‘quick fix’ detox di­ets and cleans­ing regimes, of­ten en­dorsed by celebri­ties
