HOW do you take a show that stars five of the biggest female actors on the planet, a kick-ass script and a creative team of TV genius and make it better? One word: Meryl. Like Cher and Madonna, Streep is one of those rare birds who can ditch the surname and know her mono-moniker is enough to guarantee this season will be world class. Oh and it is, with the Oscar-winning legend bringing another layer of mystery and intrigue to this thriller which will again have you transfixed. Meryl is Mary Louise Wright, the death was the accident his wife and her four friends have told police. She plays the doting grandmother, but don’t be fooled: there is menace in her moves to implant herself in Monterey; close to her twin grandsons and closer still to watch the women she thinks have something to hide when it comes to her son’s shock death. Her clashes with Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) in particular are wickedly fun to watch. Co-stars Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and this week’s covergirl Shailene Woodley.
