MAKING A GREAT ESCAPE

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - TV Guide - - THE WEEK’S TOP SHOWS -

FOR anyone who has caught an episode of Escape to the Chateau, you’ll know the great strength of this series is not the lust-have location, or even the pervy property-porn value of it all, but the couple who dared to live their dream out loud and renovate a stunning manse in north-west France. Dick Strawbridge, a cuddly, bearded ex-Army colonel, and his dazzling designer wife, Angel Adoree (both pictured) are up there with Chip and Joanna Gaines, of Fixer Upper fame, as my favourite DIY couple. Their first series saw them find their castle called The Vintage Patisseries and appeared on Dragon’s Den (the UK equivalent of Shark Tank). They share the screen with their two children, Arthur and Dorothy, and their in-laws, who have their own newly revamped quarters in an adjoining stable. There’s a little bit of Sarah Beeny, Kirstie Allcott and Laurence Llewellyn Bowen in Angel’s interior design, while Dick is the host with the most. This spin-off series follows other Brits who have been inspired by Dick and Angel to do the same. I promise you, you will be too.
