ALL HAVE ROLE IN FIXING EDUCATION

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - OPINION -

The education system and know-it-all reformers need to get off teachers’ backs (“Angela Mollard: Our teachers deserve more”, 7/5).

Every attempt at improving academic standards and student behaviour is directed yet again at the teachers.

The mindset is that if only we can “fix the teachers” everything will improve.

The fools never notice that students, parents, administrators, the curriculum and the system itself are all part of the equation. They also never accept that an equation has to be balanced.

They will tell you that teachers are professionals and it is their job to take responsibility and improve themselves. So what? They are responsible only for their part of it. Parents and students are on the payroll too via government funding. They also have an obligation to society as much as teachers do.
