THE Winx fac­tor has in­di­rectly led to Rac­ing Vic­to­ria an­nounc­ing sig­nif­i­cant prize­money in­creases yes­ter­day.

Among the hikes is the de­ci­sion to raise Caulfield Stakes prize­money to $1 mil­lion (up $400,000).

Rac­ing Vic­to­ria and the Mel­bourne Rac­ing Club will be hop­ing this is enough to entice Winx’s con­nec­tions to race their mare in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on Oc­to­ber 14.

In Syd­ney the same day is the in­au­gu­ral run­ning of the $10m The Ever­est at Royal Rand­wick where there is spec­u­la­tion the Craven Plate (2000m) will be a sup­port race with a sig­nif­i­cant prize­money boost to try to keep Winx in Syd­ney for her fi­nal Cox Plate lead-up run.

Other ma­jor prize­money in­creases in­clude the Caulfield Guineas, dou­bled to $2m, and the Mem­sie Stakes and Cool­more Stud Stakes worth $1m.

It is un­der­stood Rac­ing NSW and the Aus­tralian Turf Club will re­view prize­money af­ter RV’s an­nounce­ment.
