VICS RAISE STAKES IN BID TO ENTICE WINX
THE Winx factor has indirectly led to Racing Victoria announcing significant prizemoney increases yesterday.
Among the hikes is the decision to raise Caulfield Stakes prizemoney to $1 million (up $400,000).
Racing Victoria and the Melbourne Racing Club will be hoping this is enough to entice Winx’s connections to race their mare in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 14.
In Sydney the same day is the inaugural running of the $10m The Everest at Royal Randwick where there is speculation the Craven Plate (2000m) will be a support race with a significant prizemoney boost to try to keep Winx in Sydney for her final Cox Plate lead-up run.
Other major prizemoney increases include the Caulfield Guineas, doubled to $2m, and the Memsie Stakes and Coolmore Stud Stakes worth $1m.
It is understood Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club will review prizemoney after RV’s announcement.
