Smart, en­ter­tain­ing, su­perbly-acted and shock­ingly funny, this satir­i­cal hor­ror film ticks all the boxes.

The ea­ger-to-please nar­ra­tor of this an­thro­po­mor­phic tear-jerker (Josh Gad) is rein­car­nated maybe half a dozen times over the course of the film in or­der to ful­fil his dra­matic des­tiny.

A su­pe­rior re­tread of a Kiwi clas­sic about three ac­ci­den­tal out­laws who tra­verse the length of New Zealand in a souped-up yel­low Mini.

Di­rec­tor James Gunn works hard to de­liver a se­quel that de­liv­ers on the prom­ise of the orig­i­nal film. For the most part, he de­liv­ers. (Gold Class and VMAX)

Big, loud, fast, dumb fun — with­out any brakes. That’s di­rec­tor F. Gary Gray’s brief for the eighth film in this seem­ingly un­stop­pable fran­chise and he sticks to it.

Michael Caine, Mor­gan Free­man and Alan Arkin get away with this geri­atric screen heist by the skin of their pants — but only be­cause they are old pros.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 129 min­utes (PG)

Twenty-five years af­ter its first out­ing, this live ac­tion mu­si­cal re­make star­ring Emma Wat­son feels like a throw­back.
