Johnston (right) played 190 games for Liverpool during the 1980s and was a crowd favourite at Anfield, so it is only fitting that the man Reds fans knew as “Skippy” will be in Sydney for Liverpool’s 125year celebration game against Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on May 24.

Johnston, 56, learnt to play the game at Lake Macquarie near Newcastle and has always called Australia home.

The former Liverpool midfielder will arrive in Sydney this week.

Johnston will be one of many Liverpool legends, joining flamboyant manager

Jurgen Klopp and his first team players in Sydney for the game. The game is well on the way to a sellout, with tickets starting from $50 for adults and $29 for kids.

Liverpool fans plan to recreate the famous Kop of Anfield at the northern end of ANZ Stadium and no doubt 80,000 fans will be singing You’ll Never Walk Alone.
