SHAYNE O’CASS’S BEST BETS OF THE DAY
DUBBO BEST BET Race 5: No. 3 Eyota Trained by Damien Lane at Wyong and we know from experience that he will go anywhere to win a race with his string which he places with deadly precision. That’s the case with Eyota here, a horse coming off placings at Wyong and Gosford. Drawn one and Lane has left no stone unturned by booking Greg Ryan.
Race 2: No. 3 Foxdown
Is a full- brother to the one- time Dubbo resident Shiraz. This 3YO gelding won a trial in brilliant fashion on March 21. We could make a case for him being unlucky in both runs so far — been wide at each. He has drawn 14 here but Ryan sticks and no surprises there.
Race 9: No. 11 Fly Lightly The John Singleton- owned and - bred filly is worth a fortune in the breeding shed. She’s a halfsister to Group 1 winner Fenway and is “almost” a three- quarter sister to More Joyous. Was trained by Gai Waterhouse, now with Rod Northam and was a massive winner at Binnaway last time. Can keep climbing the ladder before she goes to stud.
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
has probably started favourite in more jockeys’ challenges than Winx has in her races! Fair enough, too, he has a huge band of supports in Punter Land and also from the trainers. We have him down for at least two winners, maybe three.
Quinella race 2: Nos. 2,3 All- up race 2: No. 3 into race 5: No. 3
Race 4: No. 1 Dure Was allotted 66.5kg by the handicappers but will carry 62.5kg after the claim for the heady young up and comer Patrick Scorse. Dure rates 10 points ahead of his rivals here on the benchmark. He is a 76er racing in a Bm65 so we can’t really expect him to be on the limit!
NEXT BEST Race 1: No. 5 Midnight Serenade Is a first starter by Your Song who has sired more winners than any other freshman sire this season. They can all gallop and this one showed plenty in her latest trial. Nice race for her.
BEST VALUE Race 5: No. 1 Duke of Downunder Has only won one from 19 but he has placed 10 times. Has wide draw but a good jockey.
