Slater will decide his Storm future after Origin

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - SPORT - MATT LOGUE

BILLY Slater has told Melbourne officials he will make a decision on his future after this year’s Origin series.

Slater is yet to decide if he’ll play on next season after returning from a two-season layoff from consecutive shoulder surgeries this year.

The champion fullback will focus on his return to the Origin arena with Queensland, before sitting down with Melbourne to decide his next move.

Storm football manager Frank Ponissi expects to meet with Slater at the completion of this year’s Origin series next month.

“It will be purely how Bill feels about playing another season,” Ponissi told The Sunday Telegraph. “The talks with him have been going positively for ages and there will be no issue with the discussions.

“The sooner we know the better for our own planning, but we are also very respectful of what Bill has not only done for this club but also what he has gone through in the last two years.

“So we will be letting him make that decision without any pressure, so he isn’t forced into making the wrong decision.”
