NO PLACE FOR GATECRASHERS

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - SPORT - DEAN RITCHIE

HAPPY birthday Cam and you too, Billy boy.

And here is the birthday wish from everyone in NSW: “It’s our party and you’re not invited to share in the celebrations on Wednesday night.” Even the stars are

against the Canetoads.

The two champions share a birthday today when they both turn 34.

Slater was born on June 18, 1983, in Nambour. Smith was born on exactly the same day in Brisbane.

The pair have tormented NSW for a decade. They are Geminis and when we searched Astrology.com yesterday it read: “You might have joined the wrong team, but it’s too late for

regrets.”

Slater and Smith have played 26 games together for Queensland, winning 15.

“They are great players and have been for many years,” NSW coach Laurie Daley said.

“We are under no illusions. We know this wonderful Queensland team will bounce back.”

Slater is being touted as Queensland’s saviour having been overlooked for game one.

Blues forward Wade Graham let his feelings be known on Smith and Slater. “Smith will be an Immortal, Slater is probably the best fullback that’s played the game,” Graham said. The Blues are hoping the pair enjoy today. But that’s where it stops.
