Satisfaction for Hansen

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - RACING -

DARRYL Hansen watched Monsieur Gustave’s Eye Liner Stakes win from 100km away in Kilcoy, but it didn’t change his level of satisfaction, having targeted the race months ago.

Hansen had to saddle Doumbek, who ran on strongly for third at the Kilcoy meeting.

“It’s one of my biggest ever wins,’’ the trainer said. “I always wanted to run in the Eye Liner and then the Glasshouse at Caloundra but I was a bit worried about him getting a run.’’

Hansen said Monsieur Gustave was a horse that the owners have had to be patient with.

“He’s always shown the ability but he kept going shin sore in one leg,” he said.

The Eye Liner was another milestone for Queensland’s leading apprentice Tiffani Brooker, who added a second feature-race success to her CV.
