People and pooches bay for more fun

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - NEWS - REBECCA PARISH

NOT quite a beach, better than a bay. But whatever you call it, the usual rules don’t apply.

While pooches are banned from most regular beaches, Mackenzies Bay — the occasional pop-up beach wedged between Bondi and Tamarama on the famous coastal walk — is a dog-friendly spot due to its on-again, offagain sands and easy access.

So as Sydney soaked up the dog-day afternoon of autumn yesterday, pet owners also took their four-legged friends for a spot of doggie paddle.

Italian Antonello Cesariello, who has been taking his dogs Louis, Huggie and Jessie to Mackenzies since arriving in Australia a year ago, said: “I was told you can take dogs down there and apparently you can.

“As long as you don’t go near the beach, no one cares.

“The rangers don’t hassle the dogs on the rocks.”

Today’s weather is likely to be as nice, with a pleasant 26C high.
