Broncos coach set to tie the knot
BRISBANE Broncos super coach Wayne Bennett is getting married again.
The 68-year-old has proposed to his partner of 18 months, Dale Cage, and will tie the knot in Queensland’s wedding of the year.
Regarded as rugby league’s greatest coach, Bennett is yet to file for divorce from Trish, his wife of 42 years, who will receive a multimillion-dollar payout in a settlement described by sources as “amicable”.
It is understood Bennett has agreed to hand over the couple’s entire property portfolio to ensure the welfare of his disabled children, Justin and Katherine.
Now Bennett is building a new life with Cage, a 51-year-old real estate agent, who began a relationship with the seven-time premiershipwinning coach in September 2016. Cage politely declined to comment when contacted yesterday but confirmed the couple’s engagement and impending marriage, saying she was “excited.”
She is in the process of having her engagement ring made.
The pair plan to marry in October, when Bennett’s coaching commitments with the Broncos end for the season.
Cage is also considering a date in December. She is investigating wedding venues in Brisbane, her home town of Newcastle and Byron Bay.
Intensely private, Bennett has told few people of his plans to remarry. His brother Bob and sisters have been informed. Bennett and Cage met six years ago in Newcastle during his tenure at the Knights.
Bennett and Cage will wed.
