Moroney goes out a winner
KERRIN McEvoy prevailed in the last race of the day at Royal Randwick with Tribal Wisdom — which was also a farewell for trainer Michael Moroney.
The top trainer closed his Randwick stables through the week and it was fitting he leaves Sydney a winner.
“It’s nice to get a winner for Michael now they’re finishing up their stable here,” McEvoy said. But punters would have felt sick as the heavily-backed Osborne Bulls fell a stride short, losing by a half-head.
“We got the right run in a race that looked right for him on paper,” McEvoy said.
Moroney will now set Tribal Wisdom for the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane.
McEvoy said he would need to improve but he would be a good value hope. “He’ll obviously get in there with a nice low weight,’’ he said.
