Numbers crunched, Shapes are the best

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - NEWS - ALEX WHITE

THE classic box of Shapes has reigned supreme in the Australian battle of the biscuit.

Well-known Australian brand Arnott’s revealed its top 10 bestsellers this week and people might be surprised to find many childhood flavours did not make the cut.

Shapes, launched in a range of flav- ours in the 1950s, are the most bought brand in most states.

The most popular flavours are BBQ, Chicken Crimpy and Pizza.

The indulgent Tim Tam range came second on the list, followed by Jatz and Vita-Weat. The quintessential Scotch Finger ranked fifth.

Lunchtime biscuits and healthy snacking crackers Cruskits and Salada came next.

At the bottom was Tiny Teddy, with the delicious Mint Slice scraping in at 10th place.

Biscuit habits differed slightly between states, with NSW having a slightly sweeter tooth, gobbling more packets of Tim Tams, Scotch Fingers, Mint Slices and Tiny Teddys.

Our southern cousins in Melbourne registered as the biggest consumers of Shapes, Jatz and Salada.
