‘ Miracle’ cancer girl critically ill

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - NEWS -

THE family of Annabelle Nguyen thought their five-year-old had beaten fatal brain cancer — but she is now critically ill and on life support after it returned.

Annabelle and her family, like many other desperate Australians, had flown to Mexico for expensive and experimental treatment for her inoperable and fatal brain cancer.

Australian doctors had told them nothing could be done but a clinic in Monterrey offers experimental intra-arterial chemotherapy. Annabelle has outlived the nine to 12 months prognosis by two years. Her family credit the Mexican clinic for that.

Doctors inserted a shunt into her brain to relieve the pressure on May 3 but Annabelle remains critical and in a coma.

“She is continuing to fight so we are here to fight along with her. But I’m hoping she can wake up and let us go home,” Ms Nguyen told The Sunday Telegraph.

The family has spent over $300,000 and sold their home to pay for the treatments.
