Maroons try to sign up Obamas
SYDNEY will host Prince Harry and wife Meghan, as well as former US president Barack Obama and wife Michelle, in October — so Queensland is trying to lure them north.
The star couple will attend the Invictus Games but Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has invited them to visit the underwater treasure of the reef and “experience its natural beauty”.
“Queenslanders are proud of our state and our reef and we love to show it off,’’ she said.
The fact they will have plenty of natural beauty to explore in NSW obviously doesn’t deter the cane toads, nor the fact the Obamas and Windsors might actually want to attend the games, the reason for their trip to Australia. It’s also because Obama told Brisbane’s G20 summit in 2014 that “the incredible natural glory” of the reef was at risk from climate change.
He questioned if the reef would still be alive to visit with his children and grandchildren in 50 years.
Ms Palaszczuk’s formal invitation reckons the Obama family would be wowed by its “incredible beauty and wonder … as will Australians and visitors from around the world for many years to come”.
Or they could just stay in Sydney and get the same effect.
