LISDOONVARNA KEEPS HER COOL
AUTUMN is proving kind to Lisdoonvarna who yesterday was too good for a field of three-year-olds at Rosehill.
The Amanda Turner-Mauro Poletti-trained filly held off a fast-finishing Seaway to win by half a length. The horse who loves the cooler months is appropriately named after an Irish town in County Clare where the average temperature never rises above 20C.
“Through the summer her blood has never been right because she can’t cope with the heat but at the moment it’s just perfect,” Turner said.
Lisdoonvarna was scratched at the barriers at Warwick Farm two Wednesdays ago when she hit her head.
But in another sign of her growing maturity, she bounced back yesterday and the stable will look for a Group race in Brisbane over 1400m.
“She’s so much better on a wet track so I hope it starts pouring in Brisbane,’’ Turner said.
