STEWARDS ques­tioned Blake Shinn why he didn’t take Smart­edge to o the in­side of Cur­dled to make his run in the e third race.

Shinn said the horse only had a 300m dash so he wanted to get to the out­side and have ave the last crack at them. hem He ran home strongly for fourth. But chief stew­ard Marc Van Ges­tel said had he made a run to the in­side of Cur­dled he would have been able to get go­ing ear­lier. “As one of th the most se­nior joc jock­eys in the r room, aren’t you a al­ways look­ing for o op­tions?”

Shinn said he un un­der­stood what Van Ges­tel was say­ing but was com­fort­able go­ing to the out­side. Stewards said he should have taken the in­side run.
