DIGNITARIES flew in from China to toast 46 years of official relations with Australia, at an event hosted by liquor brand Kweichow Moutai on a chilly Wednesday night.

Some 500 guests packed Sydney Town Hall for entertainment that included an indigenous Australian dance, as well as a Chinese opera singer.

Kweichow Moutai vice-president Zhang Deqin was among those who flew in from Guizhou for the event, mingling with VIPs who included news readers Lee Lin Chin and Sandra Sully.

Australian guests enjoyed soaking up the touch of Chinese culture, embracing the language by learning the traditional toast of “ganbei”.

The night also marked the launch of a limited collector’s edition Australian Moutai bottle. All guests went home with two bottles of the drop. JONATHON MORAN
