Waste not, want not
A LUXURY menu has reduced food wastage by 84 per cent at a Sydney hospital.
The Mater Hospital introduced hotel-style room service a year ago. The NSW-first scheme allows patients to order restaurant-style meals between 6.30am and 7pm.
The Mater’s chief executive officer Janine Loader said the new menu has “way exceeded expectations”. The Mater used to collect three industrial-sized bins of waste a day.
“After we implemented, we went down to half a garbage bin. You can’t believe how little waste there is,” she said.
