Balmoral sale by Olympian

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - REAL ESTATE -

THE Santa Barbara-based former Olympian Jon Henricks, who was 100m freestyle swimming world record holder, has sold his Balmoral house after 48 years for about $5.2 million.

The 1956 Melbourne dual gold medallist was recently outspoken about how the state government’s new land tax surcharge for foreigners forced him to list the home he and his American wife Bonnie bought in 1969.

The nonresident land tax rate was raised this year from 0.75 per cent to 2 per cent, with the changes meaning the couple would have to pay up to $60,000 a year. Following the hike, Henricks listed through McGrath agent Michael Coombs and sold the home ahead of yesterday’s auction.
