COOTAMUNDRA — Shayne O’Cass

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - RACE DAY PREVIEW -

RACE 1

One More Tipple has placed at 3 of 6 starts. Blinkers off first time today and makes the most appeal. Clever Fox is a member of the Matthew Dale camp. The mare trialled well at Goulburn on Sep 14. Her 3rd dam is Shadea, Lonhro’s mother. Mandora has drawn wide for this but was solid on debut.

Bet strategy: One More Tipple win, quinella 2,6

RACE 2

Fast Talking has only placed once in 9 starts but that might be enough to see him home here. Was only beaten 4 len in a much deeper maiden at Goulburn on Sept 14. Truth Be Written is a lightly raced gelding who has shown on-pace tendencies in two reasonable starts. Average Out has Kayla Nisbet on board.

Bet strategy: Fast Talking win, quinella 1,5

RACE 3

Manhattan Zip was building up to a win and when it came, last start, it was a ripper. Granted he didn’t win by much but he was steaming home down the outside and was very strong at the end of 1400m. Will eat up the mile today. Orithyia is on trial at the 1600m also but she is a Dylan Thomas so should be sweet. Drawn to win if good enough. Star Of Serena is a player. Bet strategy: Manhattan Zip win, quinella 3,6, exacta 3/6

RACE 4

Not Too Sure was 2.6 len second to Dylan’s Deeva at Corowa on Sep 17 over this same trip. Dylan’s Deeva meets the other horse worse at the weights today and, on top of that, Not Too Sure is 1 for 1 at Cootamundra so with the previous track experience and the weight issue, Not Too Sure gets the nod — just. Hard to imagine anything beating one of the top pair but if so it could only really be Hangin’ With Willy. Bet strategy: Not Too Sure win, quinella 1,2, exacta 1/2, box trifecta 1,2,5

RACE 5

La Biere Choisie has her first start under astute horseman Gary Kirkup here having previously been housed at Newcastle with Kris Lees. This daughter of Choisir has been costly on more than one occasion but she does look to have the superior form against better horses and in stronger races. Kormaddie and Exaggerate are best of the others. Bugeisha a ‘watch’.

Bet strategy: La Biere Choisie win

RACE 6

Skiing Girl has been good from day one but went down in her first two starts as a short-priced favourite. Those who stuck solid were rewarded when she bolted in first-up at Gundagai when $3.50 to $2.70. She can go right on with it. Event was going great guns before her Corowa failure. Bounding Badger has raced at Kembla at his past 5 runs.

Bet strategy: Skiing Girl win

RACE 7

Lord Denman is a Nick Olive-trained gelding who likes to race handy where possible and is invariably never far away evidenced by his record of three wins and eight placings from 18 starts. He was racing so well before his 5.8-len 9th of 10 in a leader-dominated TAB Highway at Randwick on Sep 15. Find this more to his liking. Mr Tindall had his first start for Gary Kirkup when winning at Canberra on Aug 24. Has been unseen since.

Bet strategy: Lord Denman win, box trifecta 1,3,8,9,

RACE 8

Marquee showed he was getting close to his old and best form that saw him win in town and also win a Narooma Cup with that last-start placing in the Dubbo Cup. Gets in well at the weights here. Hard to hold out late. Danetrille was extremely impressive in the Griffith Cup. He will be flying home late. Ditto the ‘longshot’ in the cup today namely Zarlu. Bet strategy: Marquee win, quinella 4,11, exacta 4/11, box trifecta 4,8,11,12
