The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - RACE DAY PREVIEW - MATT JONES

CATCH Me couldn’t be caught as she ran away with the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) in class record time at Royal Randwick.

The Team Snowdentrained I Am Invincible filly yesterday beat a brave Diddles by a widening three lengths with Mayaaseh in third.

She looked the winner a long way out and scorched over the course in 56.99sec, 0.42s faster than Defiant Dame’s race record, set in 2010.

Peter Snowden said the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 23 at Caulfield will be the next big target.

“I said to the owners yesterday if she runs well, the Blue Diamond is perfect timing for her,” Snowden said.

“I thought she could run well. When the draw came out, it is not very often they win from those wide gates first start in a race.’’

Kerrin McEvoy rode her from the back half of the field without cover at times but once into the straight, she trucked up to the leading bunch and put them away with class.

“She has a very nice amount of ability,” McEvoy said.

“I was wide and was getting pushed wider on the corner but she still had the tenacity to kick on.’’

Michael Walker returns to scale on Dubious.
