Premiere brings The Everest into focus

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - RACING - MATT JONES

RACING NSW must have been very happy after the Premiere Stakes.

The thriller promoted The Everest better than it could have imagined. The second running of the $13m race is going to be even better than the first judging by yesterday’s lead-up.

Meanwhile, the ATC is looking for a new Everest runner after Nature Strip’s flop on Friday night ruled him out of the race.

Expect another slot holder, Max Whitby and Neil Werrett, to announce their runner today. The deal was done yesterday.

Invincible Star was the last Everest-bound horse home in the Premiere and now faces a tough task to turn things around in a fortnight.

“She was disappointing,” jockey Stephen Baster told stewards. “I got across a bit too easy and she got on the bridle. With Redzel in the race, she couldn’t get to the front, prick her ears and relax.”
