Man and grandson in will war
AN ELDERLY MAN whose wife “dumped’’ him at a hospital and later took $60,000 of his money, will now get $200,000 out of her estate.
The money will come out of the share of the estate Gwenda Baker left to her grandson, 25, whom a judge said received more than $250,000 during her lifetime.
Judge Douglas McGill said Hayden Baker had also benefited from another $17,790 “stripped out of’’ his grandmother’s account seven months before she died.
The judge did not accept Hayden’s District Court evidence that he repaid more than $126,000 to his grandmother before she died, or that he had been recently diagnosed with cancer.
Mrs Baker left nothing to Noel, her husband of 57 years, who at the time of her death had no home, insufficient money to buy one and was unable to work or practically access a pension.
