UN’s trip to Venezuela

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - WORLD -

THE United Nations’ top human rights official has met both Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido and President Nicolas Maduro, who are locked in a prolonged struggle over control of the crisiswracked country.

Guaido said he spoke with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet about the need to expel Maduro from power and end Venezuela’s “suffering”.

Bachelet’s trip comes amid heightened pressure on Maduro for silencing opponents with jail, torture and violence.
