This shack is going to cost a shed-load
PER square metre, this could be Australia’s most expensive property — even though it’s roughly the size of three public toilet cubicles and, depending on the tide, comes with a private beach about 5m wide.
The boatshed in the Sutherland Shire enclave of Burraneer is for sale at $350,000, but the roughly 9sq m of floorspace means each square metre costs $39,000.
This is dearer per square metre than a Vaucluse mansion currently listed for $60 million, which works out to about $30,000 per square metre.
The Burraneer boatshed overlooks the coveted Port Hacking waterway and is a short boat ride from Cronulla.
Owner Matt Short purchased the shed with a friend in the 1990s to give their daughters a sanctuary to enjoy water sports.
The cabin is heritage-listed and cannot be knocked down and sits next door to other similar sheds. Mr Short said the price was in line with what other sheds sold for in the area.
It is rare for boatsheds to be sold as individual properties in NSW. Last year a shed in Narooma, on the South Coast, was listed for sale at $160,000.
