Muriel finds her ‘ bit of heaven’ at Avalon Beach

MURIEL De­mar­cus (pic­tured), the stylish wife of the Rio Tinto chief Jean-Se­bastien Jac­ques, has bought again in Syd­ney. This time it's a week­ender at Avalon Beach. T The in­ter­na­tional co cou­ple re­side in a $ $3 mil­lion apart­ment a at Walsh Bay.

De­mar­cus has p pre­vi­ously said Syd­ney fee feels like home and re­cently l tweeted that Avalon was her “lit­tle bit of heaven”.

They’ve spent $3.25 mil­lion on a 1930s home that was de­scribed as a vin­tage bush cot­tage in its mar­ket­ing by LJ Hooker agent An­drew Map­pin, who se­cured the sale af­ter just 30 days. The three­bed­room home fea­tures a grand sand­stone fire­place (top).

It has a deep­wa­ter jetty, pon­toon and work­ing boathouse.

Jac­ques sold some Rio Tinto shares for £180,896 ($325,000) re­cently, al­though the ad­vi­sory did not say it was to fund the beach house Down Un­der.

The cou­ple ar­rived in Aus­tralia in 2016 af­ter he was made CEO, but rather than take up res­i­dency in Mel­bourne where the min­ing com­pany is head­quar­tered, they opted for Syd­ney, when they are not in Lon­don.
