Beach wave power flop
A FAILED foray into trying to generate electricity from waves has left a 3000-tonne eyesore clogging up a beach more than five years later.
South Australia’s previous Labor government’s obsession with solar, wind and wave power has left residents of one beach suburb pleading for the army to blow up the eyesore.
A similar “wave generator” designed to use the power of the ocean to provide “free” electricity also proved to be a disaster at Port Kembla near Wollongong but that has since been removed.
Finally, SA’s Liberal government has called for tenders to remove the rusting heap.
