Albo calls for La­bor cul­tural change

LA­BOR leader An­thony Al­banese has de­clared the need for cul­tural change within the NSW arm of the party, de­scrib­ing the ev­i­dence emerg­ing from an ICAC in­quiry as “ex­tremely se­ri­ous”.

While ac­knowl­edg­ing the cor­rup­tion watch­dog had yet to fi­nalise its hear­ings, the fed­eral Op­po­si­tion leader said it was clear there was a need for “sub­stan­tial” change.

“This is ex­tremely se­ri­ous,” he said. “It’s clear there needs to be sub­stan­tial cul­tural change in the NSW branch. But first and fore­most, ICAC must be al­lowed to do its job.”

The com­ments come amid a po­lit­i­cal melt­down within the NSW branch, with an­gry La­bor MPs bay­ing for the b blood of those they be­lieve had dragged the party once again into dis­re­pute.

The NSW In­de­pen­dent Com­mis­sion Against Cor­rup­tion is in­ves­ti­gat­ing whethe er party officials en­tered into, or car­ried out, a scheme to avoid reg­u­la­tions re­lat­ing to p po­lit­i­cal dona­tions.
