The new boss of in­ter­net giant Google Aus­tralia, Me­lanie Silva, took over when previous manag­ing di­rec­tor Ja­son Pel­le­grino stepped down af­ter al­most a decade.

Silva, born in the western Syd­ney suburb of Kings Lan­g­ley in 1977 and schooled in Par­ra­matta be­fore an eco­nomics de­gree at Mac­quarie Univer­sity, is a for­mer ex­ec­u­tive with Fair­fax and Citibank who worked in Google Sin­ga­pore for two years be­fore re­turn­ing to Aus­tralia.

She now leads Google’s del­i­cate nav­i­ga­tion through the push for more gov­ern­ment
