ALL-THE-WAY MIZZY SETS A DIZZY PACE

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - RACING -

A TRACK gallop last month between races at Randwick told punters Just Thinkin’ was a horse to follow this spring but he flew under the radar because it was a stablemate most were focused on.

The So You Think threeyear-old went around with Group 3 winner Bellevue Hill and, when the sprinter appeared to be outclassed, a lot of form students were worried more about how he’d come up rather than how well the stayer returned.

“People probably thought Bellevue Hill wasn’t going that well as opposed to him going that good,” co-trainer Adrian Bott said.

“He’s a quality horse, we know that. He (Just Thinkin’) didn’t do himself justice in his first campaign and a lot of people probably judged him on his performances then but he’s returned a different horse after being gelded.

“He’s got a great mental attitude and he’s changed shape. He’ll clean up a bit in his coat so there’s physical improvement ahead.”

Just Thinkin’ did what many Gai Waterhouse horses have done over the years and controlled the Dulcify Stakes (1500m) from the front yesterday at Rosehill as he fought off Subedar to win by half a length.

He’ll head to the Gloaming Stakes (1800m) then the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

“We backed him knowing if it was tough, he’d respond late,” Bott said. “It was a strong performance. He responded well under pressure.

“The Spring Champion Stakes is a lovely target for him and I love the way he shows tactical speed over the shorter trips. He’ll get over further because he’s got plenty of stamina.”

Meanwhile, Richard Litt wasn’t committing to anything with Champagne Stakes winner Castelvecchio after he ran fourth.

Castelvecchio will either be taken back in trip for the Golden Rose (1400m) in a fortnight or follow Just Thinkin’ towards the Gloaming and Spring Champion Stakes.

“The run was good against the bias and he’s got bigger fish to fry,” Litt said.

The other eye-catching run was Shadow Hero (third).
